Bodies of young swimmers recovered

The bodies of two young men who drowned in the Blackwater River were recovered by divers from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office overnight.

The men were last seen about 6:30 p.m. near the Deaton Bridge in north Santa Rosa County.

Swift currents and high water levels made the recovery difficult and dangerous, according to the the SRSO.

The first swimmer was located at 11 p.m. and the second two hours later.

Although the Sheriff's Office did not identify the men, members of St. Mary's were asked to pray Tuesday night for the family of David and Gregory Florian, whose uncle is Father John Licari.

The deaths of the brothers bring the area drowning toll up to five this year. A Louisiana man lost his life in the Gulf of Mexico last week. A Fort Walton Beach man died trying to swim across the Santa Rosa Sound this spring and a woman visiting in Crestview drowned in a pond, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
