Missing girl found safe

PANAMA CITY BEACH -- Police have found an eight-year-old girl reported missing Friday safe and sound after a three-hour search.

Officers employed a helicopter, ATVs, boats and beach patrol units in search of Makayla Thomas, 8, who went missing shortly after 8 p.m. Friday night near the M.B. Miller County Pier, 12213 Front Beach Rd. The young girl was found at about 11 p.m. near Schooner’s, 5121 Gulf Dr., about 6-miles away, according to police reports.

She had apparently walked off, became lost and kept walking. Thomas was shaken up and scared, but police said she was uninjured and no signs of suspicious activity existed.

PANAMA CITY BEACH -- Panama City Beach Police Friday night were searching for a young girl who was reported missing.
 
The girl was identified as Makayla Thomas, age 8. She was described as wearing a two piece bathing suit, black and white stripes going sideways, with her hair in a bun.
 
Officers were searching by helicopter, boat and on foot along the beachfront in the area of the county pier, where she was last seen.
