SPRINGFIELD — Springfield commissioners are set to announce initial property tax mills at its noon meeting Monday at 3529 E. Third St.
City Clerk Lee Penton said the city will not go over the millage it sets but may lower the number after the budget is finalized. The commission recently discussed a tax between 3 and 3.5 mills. A mill is equal to $1 for every $1,000 of taxable value.
The city received the certified property tax roll from the Bay County Property Appraiser on July 1. Like other cities in the county, Springfield’s property values are down, but only slightly.
Penton said last year’s figure, after exemptions, was $197 million. This year the total property values came in at $194 million.
The commission also is scheduled to discuss the possibility of attending Callaway’s Advanced Wastewater Treatment meeting Tuesday. Penton said he and Mayor Ken Hammond will not attend the meeting but only because of prior commitments.
The commission also is likely to approve three development orders: one for Subway at 1442 Lucky Ave. at the corner of 15th Street, one for Anytime Tree Removal in the 1200 block of Transmitter Road, and one for Marshall Bros., who are planning a warehouse and office building at 2305 Transmitter Road.
