Parker keeps parking enforcement with police

PARKER -- The Parker City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance changing parking tickets from a traffic citation to a city citation, changing the fine from $118 to $30.

The council amended the ordinance keeping enforcement of parking violations with the police department. City Clerk Nancy Rowell expressed concern about City Hall needing another window for payments if Code Enforcement officer Deena Brannon issued tickets. The ordinance also allows for enforcement of violations in commercial areas.

Two other ordinances, a franchise agreement with Tampa Electric Company and a criminal nuisance violation were approved. The franchise agreement with TECO, for gas service, is for 10 years with two 10-year renewal options. The agreement would net the city about $12,000 per year. The other ordinance would allow the city to fine property owners for nuisance code violations for repeat criminal activity, at least five calls in a month.

The City Council also approved $50,000 to replace about 20 percent of the city’s water meters. The $50,000 came from $278,000 in surplus funds from the 2013-14 budget.
