Lynn Haven to consider Fuel Depot development agreement

LYNN HAVEN — City commissioners Tuesday will consider a development agreement with Bluewater Development Group for the former Air Force Fuel Depot.

The Air Force still owns the 184-acre, waterfront property. The plan calls for cleaning the property, as some fuel spills accumulated for years, and then transferring it to the city with a temporary investment from Lynn Haven.

If the commission approves an agreement with Bluewater, then the property could transfer straight to the developer. If not, the city would bid the project, similar to what Panama City has done with its marina project. City Manager Joel Schubert said he would prefer the property quickly transfer to a private owner.

Bluewater was one of two companies that had bid with the Air Force back in 2008, losing the contract to Tyndall Development Partners, and is interested in taking the assignment. TDP expressed in 2012 that it is not interested in the project. The Commission will decide today whether to work with Bluewater to reach a development agreement by Jan. 1.

The commission also will consider bidding the replacement of wastewater treatment filters estimated to cost about $2.89 million. Schubert said the current filters are almost 20 years. “We would be facing fines if they fail,” Schubert said.

The meeting is at 4 p.m. at City Hall, 825 Ohio Ave. (State 77).
