Callaway finance director resigns

CALLAWAY – Finance Director Debra Yeager has resigned effective Monday.

Yeager was paid $55,000 per year, City Manager Michael Fuller said.

Fuller has contacted former finance director Alice Bennett to assist with the budget and year-end finances still needing completion. The City Commission will discuss Bennett's compensation at its meeting Tuesday at 6 p.m.

When hired, the new finance director might receive a higher salary because $55,000 is near the bottom of the pay scale for the position, Fuller said.

The commission also will discuss entering into a contract agreement with Infrastructure Corporation of American for maintenance of rights of way on Tyndall Parkway. ICA has contracted with the Florida Department of Transportation to maintain rights of way in all of Bay County. The company is offering to pay Callaway $7,090 to mow and landscape along the road, $3,8443 less than the city received from FDOT last year. ICA does not want to actively maintain the right of way. The ICA contract with FDOT just includes state highways.

If the commission were to refuse, ICA would mow and edge seven times and remove trash 12 times per year. The city would still be responsible for the maintenance of landscape areas to meet FDOT Landscape Grant Standards. Fuller stated in the agenda item that $7,000 would cover most of the cost and that the alternative would make the roadway look much worse.
