CALLAWAY -- Callaway and Bay County have agreed on a mediator for the hearing about the Cherry Street lift station: Carlos Alvarez of Tallahassee
Alvarez is a lawyer who runs a mediations practice. Mediation has been his focus for 16 years. Alvarez has extensive experience working with local governments.
“In appropriate cases, I suggest the parties develop a tailored-made mediation process to help reach a settlement,” Alvarez has written on his website. “ A one-size-fits-all mediation process often undermines the chances for a mediated settlement.”
Callaway and Bay County are waiting to hear back from Alvarez. If Alvarez accepts, they will then work around his schedule to set a mediation hearing.
The dispute between Bay County and Callaway involves hundreds of thousands of dollars to which either side may be responsible.
“Both sides are comfortable with this choice,” Callaway City Attorney Kevin Obos said.
