Public meeting on West Bay Parkway Thursday night

SOUTHPORT -- Residents are being invited Thursday night to a meeting at which state transportation officials will get the public’s views about what road projects they would like to see come to fruition in a huge swath of area of Bay County stretching from Lynn Haven up to Washington County.

The kick-off meeting concerning the West Bay Parkway Extension Corridor Feasibility Study is scheduled to be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Gulf Coast State College Public Safety Emergency Operations Center Building, 700 Highway 2300, Room 176 in Southport.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the roadway network and determine the feasibility of new or enhanced roadway connections within the study area, a Florida Department of Transportation press release states.

The study area includes State 77, the planned West Bay Parkway, U.S. 231 and the planned Gulf Coast Parkway.

The study is evaluating future traffic projections, regional mobility options, social and economic factors and environmental impacts and enhancements. The meeting will be an open house format and representatives from FDOT will be available to discuss the objective of the study, answer questions and receive comments. Maps, drawings and other project-related information will be on display for review and comment.
