LYNN HAVEN - The Shaddai Shriner Temple of Panama City is sponsoring the first Bay County Great Cardboard Boat Regatta at Leslie Porter Wayside Park in Lynn Haven on Saturday.
Shriners invited high school students across the region to put the principles of science and physics to work for the regatta. Teams of six students formed to construct cardboard boats capable of being paddled by two students around a 200-yard course three times.
Medals will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers of the race. Additional trophies will be awarded for the best decorated boat, best team spirit and the Titanic award for the most spectacular sinking.
The event will kick off with registration at 10 a.m. and the races begin around noon.
