PANAMA CITY — More than a half-foot of rain is possible in isolated portions of the Florida Panhandle on Sunday and Monday, and forecasters issued a flash flood watch for the area.
The rainfall is forecast to begin by early Sunday, and widespread totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected across the area by the time the rain ends Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee. A few spots could see 6 inches or more, forecasters said.
The threat of flash flooding prompted foreacsters to issue a flash flood watch for the entire Panhandle and Big Bend regions beginning at 1 a.m. CDT Sunday. The heaviest rain was expected close to the coast, according to the National Weather Service, and a developing surface low was forecast to develop along the central Gulf Coast and move into the Panhandle late Sunday, enhancing the chance for heavy rain.
