PANAMA CITY BEACH — Runners and walkers have one last chance to register for Sunday’s Biggest Loser race.
“Whether you’re an avid runner and you’re going out (Sunday) to run your best time ever — you’re pushing yourself and the amount of discipline it takes to keep doing those races — I champion you,” said Season 5’s Jackie Evans at a meet and greet event Saturday.
“I also champion the first timers because they are for the first time getting out there and doing something,” she added.
Onsite registration starts at 6:30 a.m. The half marathon starts at 8 a.m. and the 5k starts 20 minutes later. Registration for the half marathon is $99 and $45 for the 5k.
Online registration is closed.
Spectators will be on the sidelines rooting for about 2,000 competitors as they pass the start and finish line at Frank Brown Park, 16200 Panama City Beach Pkwy.
On Saturday, mom-and-son duo Jackie and Dan Evans and several other Biggest Loser contestants shared their weight loss stories with attendees at a meet and greet held at Edgewater Beach Resort.
“I’m a big fan of the Biggest Loser,” said 20-year-old Tiffany Hampton. “I’m just in love with Francelina (Morillo) and Jeff (Nichols)” from Season 14.
For the second year, Hampton will walk the 5k with her mother and father Tiffany and Brian Hampton.
Tiffany Hampton said she wanted her family to take on the challenge because she wants her family “to be healthy, eat better and just be happy.”
Evans, who dropped 137 pounds, said Saturday’s event was “a chance for us all to come together and share our stories.”
“Its taking the people from the show and (race participants) saying, ‘ah, I’ve seen you do it. I’m doing it too, would like to do it too or have done it,’ ” Evans said. “And to me, that’s what it’s all about.”
