TALLAHASSEE — Customers of Gulf Power Co., which serves much of Bay County and the Panhandle, will face slightly higher utility bills in 2015.

The state Public Service Commission on Wednesday approved charges that will be passed along to consumers next year for expenses such as power-plant fuel.

A Gulf Power residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt hours a month will pay $139.29, up from $132, commission figures show.

Customers of Florida Power & Light and Tampa Electric Co. will see slightly lower utility bills in 2015. An FPL residential customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a month will pay $99.68 in January, down from the current $101.51. A similar customer of Tampa Electric will pay $108.47, down from the current $109.61.

The industry commonly uses 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity for residential customers as a benchmark, though many customers use more power than that each month.
