PANAMA CITY — The Panama City Rescue Mission still is interested in moving from its current location on Allen and Sixth Street downtown, Director of Fund Development Amanda Bawn said.
Bawn added that the mission wants to expand, having outgrown its current location, and that the city is requesting a move to improve the image of downtown.
Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki said the commission is planning to propose the city-owned property on Redwood Avenue between 11th and 15th streets as a new location for the mission. The city has properties crossing Redwood, one of which is a potential site of the city’s primary natural gas station. The commission still needs to approve the conversion of city vehicles to natural gas.
Bawn said the mission’s concerns include having enough space to expand — the current location, for men only, has 73 beds — and access to a Bay Town Trolley stop. There is not a stop especially close to the Redwood Avenue site, but Brudnicki said providing a stop would be a priority.
The commission could have an agenda item about a Rescue Mission move in December.
