PANAMA CITY — The best exercise after your turkey dinner is a little heavy lifting, like grabbing the Thanksgiving edition of The News Herald.

Those bulky bundles aren’t assembled by a work of a magic. More than 100 people contribute to printing the paper, inserting the ads and delivering it your doorstop.

“This is our biggest paper of the year. It’s our Super Bowl,” said Ron Smith, operations regional director. “So much work goes into one paper, for one day.”

Here’s a breakdown of the numbers behind the paper:

1,875,026  — The total number of insertions in the 30,000 printed News Herald papers. We did the math for you.

94 — The number of carriers delivering The News Herald to homes and stores. All of which are rushing to get the papers out so they can enjoy Thanksgiving at home.

255 — The average number of papers each home delivery carrier is in charge of. Since the Thanksgiving paper is more than twice the size of an average paper, some carriers rent vans to carry the extra load.

20 — The approximate percentage increase of employment in the packaging and circulation department for seasonal work. Between the Panama City News Herald and Northwest Florida Daily News, there’s about 1,000 man hours dedicated to getting the insertions in the paper and then, getting the paper to you.
