MEXICO BEACH — The City Council is considering building a new City Hall that would be a 3,200-square-foot structure.
Elizabeth Moore of Preble-Rish Engineering met with the council recently and presented two general proposals for how to place a City Hall structure at Municipal Park on Seventh Street. One plan showed how a structure might fit on the property while leaving part of the park intact while the other did not keep the park elements.
Mooresaid the Parker property, former site of the Parker House, also was being re-evaluated to see if it could support any type of structure or pavilion should the council decide to use the area for special events.
Mooreadded that the general plans were the best she could offer until the council decided on what type and size of structure it wanted to build.
“Preble-Rish works at the pleasure of the council,” Moore said. “It’s not my place to speculate on what you want.”
The council agreed to have Moore update the plans with a 3,200-square-foot structure, based on plans the city had already drafted up when it intended to build on the Parker House property.
Councilwoman Tonya Castro encouraged the council to make decisions and move forward on the project, which has been in flux for almost two years.
“How many times are we going talk about it and move a house around on a lot?” Castro said. “I think we need to move forward and don’t keep delaying this. I’m tired of stalling, and the people want us to get this done.”
The council will schedule a special meeting to make its final decisions on the size and materials of the structure in order for Preble-Rish to continue creating plans.
