CALLAWAY — Some mobile home owners in Callaway will have to make changes if commissioners approve an amendment to its current mobile home policy at Tuesday’s meeting.
Callaway commissioners will hear the final reading of an amendment that requires all existing and future mobile homes to have skirting. The amendment’s adoption is pending a public hearing and commissioners’ vote at Tuesday’s meeting held at 6 p.m. at Callaway Arts and Conference Center, 500 Callaway Park Way.
“If this ordinance is adopted by the commission,” planning director Michael Fuller, “myself and the code enforcement officer immediately will try to educate mobile home park owners and people who own mobile homes without the skirting, so that they’ll have plenty of time to address anything like that.”
Residents will have 24 months to comply with the ordinance or face fines.
Although the amendment does not state mobile home hitch systems — called “tongues” — have to be removed, skirting typically requires tongue removal. Skirting prices range from $300 to $600.
Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners are set to discuss and vote on a revised interlocal Animal Control agreement that the city has with the county.
In prior meetings, commissioners questioned the level of accountability of the county service after Callaway’s animal control fees increased by about $24,000.
