UPDATE: Man dies in wreck

PANAMA CITY — A man was killed in a two-vehicle wreck on Monday, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Jeffrey Dean Mayo, 45, of Panama City, died when his 1999 Ford Ranger collided with a Mitsubishi moving van Monday morning near the intersection of 15th Street and Sherman Avenue, FHP reported. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Mayo was traveling eastbound in the outside (right) lane of U.S. 98 approaching Maple Avenue, while the moving van was traveling westbound, an FHP report stated. Mayo ran off the roadway to the right, traveling onto the eastbound sidewalk, then reentered the roadway and crossed the inside (left) eastbound travel lane, the report said.

As a result of Mayo failing to maintain his lane, the front portion of the Ranger collided with the front portion of the moving truck. Both vehicles came to a rest in the westbound travel lanes.

John Alex Austin, 47, of Sunny Hills and Charles Silvester Taylor, 43, of Panama City, were in the moving van and taken to Bay Medical Sacred Heart with serious injuries, according to the FHP report.

The investigation into th crash is ongoing.
