PANAMA CITY — Gas can once again be found for under $2 in Panama City.
Sam’s Club is selling gasoline for $1.98 with several gas stations in the area are hovering around the $2 mark. The Red Line at US 98 and Beck Avenue in Panama City and the MP Food Mart at State 77 and State 390 are at $2.01.
Cars were lined up at Sam’s Club Sunday afternoon to take advantage of what is, according to GasBuddy.com, the lowest price tag in the area.
“Who ever thought you’d get excited about a dollar and 98 cent gas? But I am,” said Joel Bailey, who was filling up his gas tank at Sam’s Club Sunday afternoon.
Bailey remembered when gas was at low as 19 cents.
“It stayed at that, you know 19, 29, 59, all that stuff for a long time, but once it started popping it went crazy,” he said.
Bailey said his tank used to cost as much as $75 to fill up, but on Sunday he filled it up for $36.01.
These savings have not gone unnoticed, as one Sam’s Club official said she’s noticed people are able to spend more money in the store now that they are paying less at the pump.
“I’m not a gas or an oil expert, I just look at it from my point of view. I’m retired on a fixed income, so I think this is great,” said Lloyd Bullock as he filled his tank at Sam’s on Sunday.
GasBuddy.com reports the national average gas price as $2.06, down $1.24 from last year’s average at this time, $3.30.
