PANAMA CITY — The Homeless and Hunger Coalition of Northwest Florida is conducting the annual Point in Time Count this week.
This is a count of the sheltered and unsheltered homeless in Bay, Jackson, Holmes, Calhoun, Washington and Gulf counties. The unsheltered count begins Thursday, asking individuals where they spent the previous night.
The data collected from this effort is compiled and sent to Florida’s Office on Homelessness and the Housing and Urban Development Office. This is one tool the state and federal level uses to determine funds allocated to the area for homeless and near homeless issues.
The Homeless and Hunger Coalition of Northwest Florida has volunteers that are going to assist with this count. Also, the coalition member agencies across the community are assisting with the count by interviewing the individuals that come to receive services that may be unsheltered.
