5. Somebody makes a grand entrance. The Lady Gaga egg is still my favorite but Nicki Minaj and the pope is a strong second place.
4. Ridiculous outfits. The best thing about the Grammys is that it’s not like the Oscars where everybody gets buttoned up and the ladies get made fun of if they don’t wear elegant gowns. These are still “musicians” and musicians are lovely weirdos and that vibe extends to their clothing choices

3. Great performance. The candidates are: Kanye, Paul McCartney and Rihanna together, Madonna, Sam Smith and Mary J. Blige, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Hozier and Annie Lenox, Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani, Herbie Hancock, John Mayer, Ed Shereen and Questlove, AC/DC, Usher, Pharrell, Katy Perry (fingers crossed that a giant lion and dancing sharks are part of the gig), Jessie J and Tom Jones, Sia, Beck and Chris Martin, Common and John Legend, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and there are a couple more.
The lineup does not inspire me to do backflips in excitement, but I feel like there has to be a gem or two somewhere in that bunch. What I mean by great performance is a strong showing of musicianship (unlikely with this crew), a show that is energetic and fun or something crazy.
2. Speaking of crazy, we’re due for an insane Kanye moment right? My suggestions? I have two options. Option 1, my best-case scenario: is that Beyonce wins album of the year, and as she’s about to accept it, Ye interrupts, “I’m a let you finish, but Taylor Swift had one of the greatest albums of all time.” I think that could spark an Internet war between the Beyonce and Taylor Swift fandoms.
Option 2: Kanye uses the big hook from the Apollo Theater and drags LL Cool J off stage shortly after the show begins. Cool James then gets tied up so we don’t have to see his stupid, lip licking face for the rest of the evening.
1. I want Sam Smith to either win all four of the big awards -- album of the year, best new artist, record of the year and song of the year – or get completely shut out. It would be kind of cool if he won the Grammy grand slam.
