Rep. Graham pledges pay

WASHINGTON, D,C. — Rep. Gwen Graham pledged to donate her pay if Congress allows Department of Homeland Security funding to run out, as it may at the end of this week.

Graham co-sponsored a clean funding bill that aims to prevent the department from shutting down, but if funding is not renewed she will donate her congressional pay to Warrior Beach Retreat, a Bay County nonprofit that helps combat-wounded military servicemen and women and their families. Graham appears to be the first member of Congress to make such a pledge and called on others members to do the same.

Graham recently visited active duty military members at the United States Coast Guard Station in Panama City, which is under the Department of Homeland Security. If Congress shuts down the department, members of the Coast Guard would be forced to work without pay and civilian workers could be furloughed.
