LYNN HAVEN — The Lynn Haven Farmers Market is back for all those who are looking for items like Japanese eggplant, purple Thai basil, big leaf oregano or something as simple as fresh tomatoes or kale.

“We pick it the night before and sell it the next morning,” Jim Weslowski said. “I think the customer knows that.”

Weslowski said the customers in Lynn Haven are both consistent and committed, which is why he plans to have a tent every Tuesday as well as a booth at the fairgrounds market.

“We come over every Tuesday from the Senior Center,” Margaret Belgard said. “It’s usually about the same time.”

This year the market is open from 10 a.m. to dusk instead of noon. Weslowski is pushing to extend the market to Fridays as well.

“I like the hour change, too,” said Nancy Cox, who had multiple bags filled with corn, boiled peanuts, onions and Brussels sprouts.

Gene Hesker sells rocking chairs, end tables and swings made of cedar and cypress. He stood out in the crowd of produce vendors.

“I like this market best by far,” Hesker said.

Standing out for a different reason was 9-year-old Critter Southerland, who was selling honey at $8 a pound and $20 for a 3-pound jar. She dutifully explained the pollen at the bottom of the jar can prevent allergies and the honey in general was good for all types of health concerns.

She was running her table by herself for a time while her dad went to get a few items from the grocery store.

“My dad works for me,” she said.

Hesker agreed with Jenefer Richards, of Jenefer’s Garden — which sells many of the harder-to-find Asian items — that while business was good for the first day they expect more people to come out starting in June when a band will provide live music.

“It’s going to get busy,” Richards said.
