WEST BAY — A former Bay District Schools elementary teacher is returning to become interim principal of West Bay Elementary, which is scheduled to open next school year.
John Cannon, who was a teacher in 1995 and has served as a school improvement specialist with the Florida Department of Education for the past three years, was chosen by Superintendent Bill Husfelt as the interim principal.
“I’m so excited about opening up the school out there,” Cannon said.
Cannon said there are lots of decisions to be made with West Bay and that much is unknown. Making sure technology is working at West Bay is a focus, Cannon said. The length of time Cannon will serve as the interim principal will be determined later, Cannon said.
West Bay is reopening to help deal with the issue of Beach school overcrowding. The school closed in 2008 due to budget issues in Bay District Schools.
