PENSACOLA BEACH  — Restaurants along Pensacola Beach may be going to the dogs.

If Escambia County Commissioner Grover Robinson IV gets his way, the county will adopt the state's "Dixie Cup Clary" ordinance allowing restaurants on the beach to become pet friendly. The ordinance being considered Wednesday by the Santa Rosa Island Authority wouldn't force restaurant owners to open their patios to dogs. It would just give them the option to do so.

Robinson says many people travel with their pets. So, he'd like to give restaurant owners the option of catering to pets. He points out that many areas, including nearby Fort Walton Beach, have adopted the ordinance.

The board meets at 5 p.m. on today.
