TALLAHASSEE — Merritt Brown Middle school teacher Melanie McNeil-Samac was honored by Gov. Rick Scott Tuesday with the Governor’s Shine Award.
McNeil-Samac has been teaching intensive reading and English language arts for seven years. She also teaches in the Merritt Brown Middle autism program.
McNeil-Samac’s instruction goes outside the classroom. She mentors other teachers and Multi-Tier Systems of Support teams.
She also serves as vice president for “Books for Bay,” a nonprofit organization that provides free books to children between the ages of 2 and 18.
The award to her and five other teachers were handed out during a meeting of Florida’s Cabinet.
