Blogging Dead: Recap of The Walking Dead Episode 14

Sometimes we’re figuratively trapped in revolving doors. And sometimes we’re literally trapped in them.

Two of our brave (and one not-so-brave) Alexandrians found themselves locked in one. It was like ThunderDome. Three men entered, but only two left.

The one who didn’t leave (spoiler alert) was Noah, who was pulled out of one side of the revolving door by a gaggle of Walkers. He then had his jaw and face ripped apart as Glenn helplessly watched. You can blame Nicholas for that, as he squirted through the other side and gave the Walkers the opening to chomp on Noah.

It’s no surprise Noah is gone. He didn’t seem like he had much fight left in him when he found his hometown sacked and his family killed/turned.  Noah’s character also wasn’t incredibly deep and in the scheme of things he isn’t a huge loss for the show. Neither was the other death this week (keep reading).

The impetus of the trip was the power grid at Alexandria was acting up, which sent out Aiden, his goofy-looking friend Nicholas and a group that included Glenn, Noah and Tara, among others. Eugene tried to beg out of the supply run, but they didn’t take no for an answer. It’s a good thing they didn’t let him stay (more on that later).

Meantime, “Constubble” Rick stayed back to guard the rest of the town, as they did townspeople things like tend to the art studio, relax on swings and plan the next pinochle game. Oh, and Gabriel scoped out the religious surroundings and “edited” The Bible by tearing out his least-favorite passages, which apparently was basically all of the good book.

Carol also did more “soccer mom” things, including blackmailing Sam to steal chocolate. She told him if he was caught then, well, you know. She’s turning into the Godmother before our eyes.

Abraham also grabbed some fresh air and hit up Home Depot for some siding. He worked his way into a pickle, but like Abraham does, he worked out of it like a boss. His Alexandrian compatriots were impressed, of course, and it netted him a promotion from Deanna.

Back at the warehouse, Aiden kept shooting at a Walker in body armor. Glenn yelled “stop!!” but Aiden dances to his own beat. That beat led to shooting an explosive strapped to the Walker, which in turn left him severely injured and knocked Tara unconscious.

Then back at Alexandria, Jessie’s husband, Peter, paid Rick a visit with beer in hand. He offered to give Baby Judith a once-over and Carl his first physical (turn and cough). Peter wants to become bros with Rick, but we all know that isn’t happening.

Flashback to the warehouse and … poor, Aiden. It looked like he’d make it for a moment. That was a short moment, as the group was overrun and he was eaten while staked to the wall (doubly terrible).

Eugene sucked it up and tried to carry Tara out to the safety of the van. He even shot a few Walkers along the way, which was progress for the self-admitted coward. They teased him leaving without her, but though he’s weak he’s not careless, which is a redeeming quality.

Nicholas tried to get Eugene to leave Glenn behind. That didn’t work in his favor, as Glenn beat Nicholas into a similar state to join Tara in the EDM van while Eugene held a gun in his direction. Good thing Nicholas’ name isn’t Marvin (Pulp Fiction joke).

Meantime (again), Gabriel played Judas and warned Deanna that Rick and Co. are bad people and they’d turn on everyone when they have the chance. Gabriel said they were like the devil in disguise. Anger over his betrayal aside, he’s correct.

Rick is becoming more of a monster. This group has indeed done unspeakable things to survive and they will again, but they also do what’s needed. They tend to destroy a good thing because that’s what happens, albeit sometimes when they don’t intend for it to fall apart.

Things happen with this group like a revolving door. Everything comes back around. And Gabriel will be among those caught in the crossfire.

Quick thoughts: Rick now has his reason to get rid of Peter, as Carol clued into Sam and Jessie being victims of abuse by the drunkard. Carol told him he “had to kill” Peter. That’s music to Rick’s ears…

Speaking of Carol, she might be just as much of a monster as Rick. The only difference is she has more control. I dig this vicious Carol…

Daryl has a motorcycle again, as we had a brief glimpse of him presumably heading out with Aaron on a recruiting run. On a related note, Daryl’s sexiness quota goes up at least 50 percent when he’s on a chopper…

Who doesn’t like owls?!? Sam doesn’t, apparently...

It was cute for Eugene to try and justify his existence and importance to the group. It’s amazing he’s lived this long…

Did I just say it’s amazing how Eugene wasn’t dead yet? He freaked out in the warehouse and needed Glenn to save his rear. He promised to keep Tara safe, but that was likely just a way to be left alone while the others did the hard lifting…

And just like that, he totally redeems himself by saving Tara and standing up to Nicholas…

We wait to see Deanna’s reaction to Aiden’s death. I think this will make her trust the group less, especially after Gabriel’s speech…

Noah might not have been well-rounded, but he had a vision for something good. His death was an example how everything good is eventually torn apart in this world…
