City working to clear water

CALLAWAY — Because of a frozen valve, water system customers in Callaway will see brown water coming from the public water supply, city officials said Wednesday.

Hydrants are being flushed to remove iron deposits and sediments from the system. Once the flushing is complete, customers who experience discolored water should let their water run to empty the lines of sediment. The water should clear after that process, water officials said.

Even though the water still may have a brownish tint, it is safe to use but may stain some clothes if laundry is done before completely clear, city officials said.

Anyone with questions can call 871-1033.
