PANAMA CITY BEACH — The Panama City Beach Council will tackle a lengthy agenda tonight, with issues ranging from alcohol at city ponds to congested beach access points slated for discussion.
At the regular 6 p.m. meeting, the council will conduct a first reading on an ordinance that would prohibit alcohol at city-owned ponds and stormwater ponds, something City Manager Mario Gisbert said needs to be addressed.
Gisbert said the city has had problems recently with people loitering and drinking at these facilities, many of which have benches and pathways.
While alcohol is prohibited at city parks, because the pond areas in question are not designated as city parks the rule does not currently apply.
Another ordinance up for a first reading by the council tonight would prohibit the obstruction of city beach access points by any person or item.
The ordinance defines “beach access” as any area within the city where the city or county owns the easement or right-of-way designated for public access to the sandy beach.
During the meeting, the council will also discuss and consider several resolutions for approval, including a resolution to update and reinstate the city’s Pier Park Public Improvement Partnership Agreement (PIPA), which designates roles for the development and maintenance of Pier Park for public and private stakeholders.
The meeting will take place at Panama City Beach City Hall, 110 S. Arnold Road. The full meeting agenda is available online at www.pcbgov.com under “Agendas.”
