LYNN HAVEN — A contract for Lynn Haven’s new city manager is all but approved.
The signature of Joel Schubert, bureau chief in the state Department of Revenue, is already on the contract for the position Lynn Haven commissioners will be considering during their meeting Tuesday. All that is left is for commissioners to authorize Mayor Walter Kelley to pen his name to the agreement.
“He has signed the contract already,” Kelley said of Schubert at Monday’s workshop meeting. “He said he might even show up a little bit early if it was all right.”
Kelley said he will ask the commission to allow Bobby Baker, the interim city manager, to remain in the position for an additional 30 days after Schubert starts with the city April 16 to ease the transition.
According to city documents, Schubert signed the city’s initial offer of a three-year trial contract at $100,000 annually, with a $5,000 increase after six months, without any changes made to the opening offer.
Schubert was offered a relocation allowance of $3,000 and the city will provide him a monthly payment for automobile expenses. Under the contract commissioners are expected to formalize Tuesday, he also would be offered the same benefits as any other full-time city employee.
The City Commission will perform annual performance reviews for the city manager.
Commissioners are scheduled to convene at 4 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall, 825 Ohio Ave. (State 77).
