TALLAHASSEE — Want to get out of jury duty? Keep breast-feeding your child.

A bill (SB 556) filed in the Florida Senate this month would set up such a scenario. If approved, it would allow a breas-tfeeding mother to request a free pass on jury duty for one year after the child is born.

“As long as she continues to breast-feed the child, she may be excused for additional one-year periods,” the bill states.

The measure was filed by Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando, and an identical bill (HB 335) has been filed in the House. Neither bill has been scheduled for a committee hearing.
