Blogging Dead: Meeting Father Gabriel, we are the Hunters and Bob tastes like chicken?

Episode 2 brought with it a familiar phrase: “Don’t trust anybody.” It ended with a most disturbing sight courtesy of the Hunters.

We saw the appearance of Season 5’s newest member, as Rick and his merry group plucked Father Gabriel from certain death while walking in super slow-motion awesomeness. Rick was immediately punchy when meeting Father Gabriel. Who can blame him, everyone was just locked in a boxcar and about to become someone’s dinner.

You can cut Rick some slack for that. And if you’re a fan of the comics, you know Rick has every right to be wary. We’ll find out more about Father Gabriel’s past in the weeks to come and I’m guessing it won’t be admirable. Rick also made it quite clear what would happen if Father Gabriel betrayed anyone in the group.

Father Gabriel offered a church as a place to bunk and while it appeared safe it was oddly out of place and too clean out in the middle of nowhere. The group found a “short bus” that Abraham hopes to fix up to trek to Washington, D.C. No word on who would drive said bus, however, but you can be sure they’ll yell at people to sit down and shut up along the way.

They split off into two groups to forage for supplies. Rick, Michonne, Bob and Co. found a good haul at a flooded food bank after forging past a gaggle of waterlogged Walkers. Glenn, Maggie and Tara, who is starting to find a place within the group, went looking for weapons and such. Glenn found three silencers and Maggie smiled like he gave her an engagement ring.

The show opened with an impactful five minutes. Many underlying issues from last season were dredged up again, setting the stage for potential incidents in the future.

Rick told Carol he still hadn’t come to grips with her actions at the prison. That said, he was grateful for her saving them and while he had to deal with the past, he believed it would be best to move forward.

The same could be said for Carol and Tyreese. The latter thought he should tell the others to forgive Carol for what she did, as he had done. Carol was hesitant and again wanted to move forward. Tyreese agreed that the demise of Mika and Lizzie should be kept secret, however.

Then there was the lingering sexual tension between Carol and Daryl. They had always teased a possible relationship between the two, but nothing came to fruition. You can bet something will be fruitful this time around.

We ended with another round of lingering issues and pent up emotional distress, as Tara came clean to Maggie about being with The Governor when Hershel was killed. Maggie didn’t care, just like Rick didn’t (he forgave her with a fistbump). They both told Tara she’s with them now so there’s no reason to fret about the past.

The past is the past, you see. You need to leave it there and the only way to survive is to forget about it and live for tomorrow.

Sadly, not everyone in this world feels the same way, as Gareth and the few Terminites still living are going to hold a grudge for a long time. It will be a grudge that will leave a lot of people dead and left Bob without a left leg as we ended the show. Gareth explained their actions and continued to say it wasn't personal before he took a bite of Bob's flesh.

As for now, everyone else is still together (pardon the pun). We’ll see how long it lasts. And we’ll see how long people trust each other, too.

Quick thoughts:

We had our first tease (taste?) of The Hunters. Daryl’s super-conditioned hair tingled at a person in the darkness. More tingling and more conditioner upcoming…

The soaking Walkers were indeed the coolest of this season and recent past. What's keeping them together, though? It's not like they've been working out to keep up a tight set of muscles...

Tyreese turned out to be a liar, as we saw the man who he told Rick he "took care of" when Judith was threatened. Instead, he was given a harsh beating and is out there with the evildoer cannibals. I don't think Tyreese, who has changed since Lizzie's death, will be as lenient the second time around if given the chance...

Father Gabriel leaves much to be desired in the way of trust. His church was immaculate. There wasn’t any chipped paint, no broken windows, nothing really ruffled inside. It’s sketchy, to say the least and later scenes showed Gabriel didn’t always live up to his Godly code…

Rick told Carl that he’ll never be safe, even if he were around. Rick’s a downer sometimes, but he’s right…

Glenn took out a mop. Daryl dropped a bottle of water. And Bob slipped and almost was eaten. I think Bob deserves a beer…

Speaking of Bob, his courtship of Sasha was blossoming. That was until he made the mistake of crying in the woods…

The only question about Bob is if there will be much of him when he's found? Gareth also dropped the quote of the year so far, “You taste much better than we thought you would.” Oh, BobBBQ…

Speaking of Bob again, how do you think he was seasoned? You know good marinade is scarce in these times, but I bet Gareth can make some pepper and salt go a long way...

On a better note, Daryl and Carol went off in search of the car that took Beth away late in Season 4. Hopefully we find her next week. I kinda miss Beth…
