HILAND PARK — Spring Avenue Park will be shut down until mid-July while a retention pond and other work is completed.
The walking park, at 1620 Spring Ave. in Cedar Grove, got $774,775 in BP oil spill money for the project. The money came through a settlement with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The Northwest Florida Water Management District also contributed $200,000 to the project
The 6-acre retention pond will help reduce flooding in the neighborhood and will include a fountain.
“It’s a project we’ve been working on for 18 years to help the flooding and the water quality in that basin, and we’ve finally got all of it put together,” said Josee Cyr, county stormwater engineer. “This is a great thing for this neighborhood and the environment.”
GAC Contractors landed the contract with a $935,950 bid.
