TALLAHASSEE -- A state Senate panel has temporarily postponed a bill that would regulate Florida’s parasailing industry.
The Regulated Industries Committee was slated to hear the legislation (SB 320) on Thursday, but the bill’s sponsor could not attend the meeting.
The hearing would have marked the first time a measure regulating parasailing went before Florida Legislature since the summer accident in Panama City Beach that hospitalized two teenagers.
Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, has shown an interest in government oversight of the essentially unregulated industry. The bill would require commercial parasailers to obtain insurance, halt operations in bad weather and have a proper license.
Companion legislation has not yet been scheduled for committee time in the House.
