CALLAWAY — Covenant Hospice has been chosen as the benefactor of the annual Christmas Lights Celebration hosted by Joe Melvin and family on Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The celebration will be at 6618 Omoko St. in Callaway and will include a visit from Santa Claus as well as the Callaway Fire Department.

Children and families are welcome to have their photos taken with Santa or drive by to see the lights for a small donation. Any donation amount is accepted. Covenant Hospice was chosen as the benefactor of this event because of the end of life care provided to Melvin’s late wife, Janene, last August. The event is weather permitting.

Janene Melvin decorated both inside and outside each year for the holiday season. Her home was well known in the community for its lights during Christmas. Last August, in her final hours, Covenant Hospice volunteers and staff gathered to sing Christmas carols in the front yard of the family home in order for her to experience Christmas one last time.

“We greatly appreciate the Melvin family for choosing to honor Janene by hosting this event in her memory to benefit Covenant Hospice,” said Stephanie Gustason, director of branch operations. “Without fundraisers like this we would be unable to continue providing charity care to those in need in our local community.”

Covenant Hospice is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive, compassionate services to patients and loved ones during times of life-limiting illnesses.
