MALONE -- A former Malone city councilman who was convicted of dealing in stolen property last year has been permanently removed from office by the governor.
Fred Lee Jones, 65, of Malone, was arrested in March 2012 in connection with several car thefts. Investigators with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office determined that Jones stole the vehicles and sold them for scrap. After his arrest, Jones was suspended from office by Gov. Rick Scott. Friday, the suspension became permanent.
Jones has been sentenced to 11 months and 29 days in the Jackson County jail.
