PANAMA CITY — The Panama City Police Department announced the arrest of a man involved in a Sunday chase that involved police gunfire and a crash.
Lafabion Lawson, 23, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and looting with injury and leaving the scene of an accident with damage, police said.
The incident happened at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday morning, police said. During the pursuit, Lawson allegedly attempted to strike police officers with the vehicle. At that point, officers opened fire, police said. An initial statement released by PCPD did not clarify whether Lawson was hit.
Lawson crashed near the 1900 block of Harrison Avenue and fled on foot before being captured, PCPD said.
Lawson is a Montgomery, Ala., resident and a family member confirmed he was here visiting other relatives and was not a spring breaker.
