PANAMA CITY — City commissioners Tuesday are scheduled to decide payments for city attorney Nevin Zimmerman and how to control work assignments.
Following concerns Commissioner John Kady raised about the city’s ability to sustain payment of increasingly expensive legal bills, Zimmerman and Kady came up with proposals.
Zimmerman, along with members of the Burke & Blue law firm, proposed a retainer of $300,000 a year to cover the services described in his contract with the city; Kady proposed nearly half that amount, $180,000 a year.
Brudnicki was optimistic the two would reach an agreement Tuesday.
“I would like to see something in between and run it for eight months or a year,” Brudnicki said. “Then we can look at his hours … . I want to make sure our staff has access to our attorney and don’t make mistakes in a decision because they were afraid to talk to someone because they thought it would cost the city.”
Commissioners will convene Tuesday at 8 a.m. in City Hall, 9 Harrison Ave.
Other city business set for Tuesday’s meeting includes:
A resolution to place cleanup costs of nuisance properties on tax bills. The measure could be enacted by June of this year, with costs for cleanup of nuisance properties to be placed on the following November tax bills to recoup $97,180 in outstanding liens and fines.
Final reading for a land-use change of 1,200 acres in Panama City North to urban community.
A $58,791 contract with Jerry Pybus Electric to replace the Oakland Terrace ballfield netting.
An interlocal agreement with Bay County for emergency medical services protocol within Panama City.
A request from the St. Andrew Civic Club for bringing the Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance to Oaks by the Bay Park.
