PANAMA CITYBay District Schools will be recommended for reaccreditation.

Every five years the school district undergoes an audit by an external group of educators. AdvancED, an accreditation organization, presented to school district officials Wednesday a brief overview of the analysis at a School Board special meeting.

“I think they see we work together well as a team and they appreciate that,” said Superintendent Bill Husfelt. “And we’re very proud of that.”

Three points used to measure the index of educational quality were teaching and learning impact, leadership capacity and resource utilization.

Represented as a color gradient from red to orange to yellow to green — on a 1.0 to 4.0 scale with 1.0 indicated by red, being on the lower end — the district fell within yellow on the majority of the analyzed categories.

“It examines everything,” said Linda Pitts, instructional specialist for school improvement. “It’s basically an audit of systems and our instructional practices and it ensures that we are providing the best quality education that our students can receive.”

Not included in Wednesday’s overview were areas for improvement. A more detailed report is expected within the next six weeks.

“We’re in a constant state of improvement,” Husfelt said. “And we always will be.”

The eight-member AdvancED team commended the district on its safety and security operations center and acknowledged the teamwork relationship administration has with faculty, staff and students.

“This is a very tedious process,” Husfelt added. “It’s always good to have someone from outside come in and see what you’re doing and make recommendations and recognize the good things you do.”
