PANAMA CITY — United Way of Northwest Florida will visit three local Publix Super Markets today to honor employees for the charitable contributions made to the nonprofit organization both locally and nationally.

Last year, the five local Publix Super Markets in the Bay County area pledged more than $222,000 to United Way of Northwest Florida. Nationally, Publix associates have raised more than $31 million, with an additional $23 million matched through Publix Charities.

United Way officials will be joined by the mayors of Panama City, Panama City Beach and Lynn Haven to present proclamations for Publix Appreciation Day at Publix stores on State 77, 23rd Street and in Carillon Beach.

United Way features 51 affiliate agencies offering a variety of assistance to people in need. The Northwest Florida office raises money for local programs that benefit local people.
